A Funny Thing Happened on the Way Home from the Race
We
were racing from 325 miles and I had an opal cock return in good
time and eventually won the race. My most fancied candidate was
late. It did come home in ten hours but had blood on its
wing.
When
I checked the injury I noticed a note attached to the band. The
note said, "Sorry I am late but I was chased by a hawk and dropped
in at the Husky Station for a cup of coffee." The Husky Station was
a car service station in the Fraser River Valley and obviously
someone there knew something about racing pigeons.
I
never did find out who it was who cared for the bird but I was
grateful. The bird had a successful racing career
afterwards.
