Racing With No Training!
By 'no
training' I mean no 'down the road' training. At one point I raced
for several years and did not train at all. I was at a stage where
I was just starting up again after a short absence from the sport.
My young bird team were given one hour exercise in the morning and
one hour in the evening. I used a flag to make them fly and they
soon realized the routine. They were sent to the first race (60
miles) and all returned together. This system was
carried on through the young bird program with very good success.
As yearlings they continued on the program and won more races.
Later they did particularly well in the long races. What can we
conclude from this?
- I
had more time to give individual attention and observe the
birds.
- They were not being disturbed by basketing and driving down the
highway.
- The
two hours a day exercise kept them very fit.
- For
the long races they were calmer.
It
is something to think about and might just be the system for your
lifestyle. It worked for me at that time. I have mentioned before
that now I live on a small island and there is not much scope for
training. I will be relying on a lot of around-the-loft exercising.
Birds with good homing instinct that are very fit can win races.
Time will tell!
